Upcoming Shaman King Mobile Game Official Details Revealed!

When the Shaman King manga debuted in 1999, it was a huge hit. The series follows a young shaman named Yoh Asakura, who is trying to solve the mystery surrounding his birth. The series has spawned three animated films, a nine-volume manga series, and a game for the PlayStation 2. This summer, a new Shaman King game is coming to the iPhone.

This week Bandai Namco and GREE announced that they are working together to bring a Shaman King mobile game to the Japanese and Chinese app stores. The game is still in early development so no exact details have been announced as of yet. What we do know is that the mobile game will be an RPG with a combat system similar to the console games.

Fun fact: Shaman King is one of the rare anime series that has been adapted into a video game. While the anime series has been running since 1995 and has been adapted into video games on various platforms, this is the first time the franchise has been adapted into a mobile game. However, it’s still going to take a little bit of time for the game to get released as it looks like the game will be released in May 2016.

Studio Z has finally revealed some basic information about the upcoming mobile version of the beloved classic anime/manga franchise: The pre-registration campaign will open in July 2021. Shaman King Funbari Chronicle, as it is officially called, will utilize the classic visual aesthetic of a manga-style story, as well as the typical progression of a mobile game.

Classic experience, classic gameplay ?

word-image-3576 According to the screenshots and background information revealed so far, Shaman King Funbari Chronicle will feature 3D graphics with a cel-shaded battle system reminiscent of other mobile games like Akiba, which also feature full character models. In terms of design, however, the game is most similar to Toji no Miko and Digimon Links in terms of front-end style of play, traditional RPG combat mechanics, and 3D graphic animations. In fact, this is the most applauded aspect of the mobile game so far: The official description talks about the three-dimensional recreation of the world setting (and beloved battles!). However, the most interesting part of the announcement was the presentation of the game’s story modes. As mentioned, it’s presented in a classic comic book style, which is a clear nod to the roots of original author Hiroyuki Takei, who launched the whole thing in 1998. The latter, like other games of the same style, will also likely be fully voice-activated (via a remake update in April 2021, of course). To be fair, it’s technically only part of Manta’s (Morty’s) monologue being revealed at this point, plus a scene showing Anna. So we still don’t know if the visuals will retain scenes from the anime, slides from the manga, or if something entirely new will be used. By the way, Studio Z is proud to call this type of story mode Mangatic Mode. And no, don’t ask us to answer questions about it, as they say.

One-time reset

word-image-3577 The announcement and development schedule for Shaman King Funbari Chronicle is apparently perfectly timed to coincide with the reboot of the anime version, which came out a few weeks ago in April 2021. As we hinted a while back, this game will also feature a new cast of voice actors. A new VA has been appointed for some characters, such as Pirika and Yoh Asakura himself. Most of the other characters, such as Anna Cuyama, Tao Ren, Johann Faust and others, are played by the same veterans who are still in the business today. This also means that any additional details, such as plot fragments and manga chapters, that were not included in the original 2001 anime will likely be included in the new mobile game. As you know, the first series ended right after the initial defeat of the original main antagonist, Hao Asakura. But while Studio Z openly declares its intention to preserve the narrative experience of the classic series, the emphasis is also on compelling themes. Remarkably, the ad also includes a short explanation describing the game as a combination of cool and casual elements. Wait, is this a return to Granblue Fantasy?

Pre-registration action, publication date

word-image-3578 Either way, the Great Spirit has finally awoken from its slumber and will be working on its final release date later this year. Meanwhile, the pre-registration campaign will start in July. However, details of the milestones and prizes to be won will be announced at a later date. The basic gameplay is, of course, free-to-play. But everyone already knows how mobile games usually work. As for regular updates (information on current combat mechanics, progression system, gacha system, etc.), we don’t know anything about that at the moment either.
